Hi all

I completed my level 2 year 2 2330 course and should of started college last Tuesday to start the year 3.

But I haven't and the reason being is it will cost me ÂŁ1100 and the tutor told me if I am not in electrical work and do not plan on doing my NVQ ( because I can't as I don't work in the electrical environment)

So basically I would be in the same position as I am now apart from having another piece of paper saying I now have Level 3.

This is where I am at: I started the course 2 years ago for a back up in case anything happened to my current job, so far so good my current job is going well its getting really busy and I could probably see a future of about 5 years here before I needed to leave and start something else

But in the back of my mind I'm thinking I should be doing this course.........

I am working full time but it don't involve any electrical work so I could not complete the NVQ (after level 3)

So what I'm asking is this: Should I do the course anyway, pay the ÂŁ1100 and then see what happens.

BIG QUESTION:
Is it easier to get work in the trade with a level 3 than level 2? ( even tho no NVQ)

The plan was to complete the level 3 2330, then do the regs and probably a 2391 inspection and testing or an equivalent.

So confused as to what I should do....if I am going to jump on the course I don't really want to miss any more weeks as I know level 3 is quite full on.

any help would be really appreciated.

Regards

Something has to give, if you ain't working with a spark it will be like being on level one again when you do work in electrical . And of course experience is equivalent to ten courses and is why some offer to work for free. Upto you tho.

i'd do the level 3 if you can afford it. during the course , or after it,, then look for employment in the trade with a view to getting the nvq.

If you can afford the level 3 I would do it . The way things have changed and keep changing who is to say that it may not revert back to what it was . Many people will be in the same boat as you and the bums on seats will fall at the training centres , and we all know they run the show.

A lot of people are in the same position as me, My son has started the level 3 and not working in the trade and he says a lot of others who followed on from the old class are not working in the trade, some didn't even know about the NVQ!

Yes your right, it will feel like being on level 1 again, but without going to college and hands on work is so much easier to get to grips with than college work.....just hope someone gives me the chance to try and prove myself if and when I pass.

Yes I know , my young mate is in the same boat although he is just starting on level two, by the time he gets to level three he may not be able to a placement either.

Isn't level 3 2330 just theory?
You may be right , it's not a C&G course it's the one that has replaced it and he will do some practical in level two. When he gets to level three the NVQ may be in with it as he has to get on site experience and keep a log etc, there are few jobs going around here so I do not know how they expect them to do that.

Hi Ruston,

The NVQ isn't built into the level 3 it would need doing after, also for me to do that I would need to get some work but that's what I am finding difficult when I am in full time work with nothing to do with electrics :(

The plan would be to complete the level 3 and wait to see how long my current job lasts, if it goes for another 5 years great but if I find myself out of work in the next couple of years then I would use the college work I have done but trying to get work but if I am still in my current job in the next 5 years then am I just wasting my time and money doing the level 3? ....there is no way I would leave my current job to take the gamble on electrics,I honestly couldn't afford to take a pay cut and work as a sparks mate. It is and will always be my backup plan.......worth doing or not, I don't know!

Yes he was so excited to get taken on I think he may have given me the details of more than one course. he is the same as you though working full time and doing it on his days off.
