Hi,

i have recently started a project for a housing association and have lots of feed back on the AC isolation. it amazes me that they have mounted the CU in the hall just inside the front door on full display! i have come along and wired in a standard rotary locking isolator (which i agree looks a bit cack) but what to do????

is anyone aware of a more aesthetically pleasing isolator that i could use in its place whilst remaining within the regs? i was wondering if i could use the emergency lighting style switch as this is not lockable but you do need a tool to operate them??

Cheers

Does the CU not have an isolator?
Why does the installation require a locking isolator?
In what way is the isolator to be locked, open or closed?

As of the current guidelines, there must be an isolator at this point which can only be lockable in the off position. The CBs in the CU don't offer this option.

I'm not aware of any CBs that aren't locable with the appropriate lock off kit?

With a normal padlock, both poles.

Thanks Guys,

I know what the regs on the isolator are, my question was more about is there a better looking version available than the very industrial looking ones?

Cheers

Kraus and naimer are the best looking isolators imo. You cant use a lock off kit on CU main switch, it has to be padlock only and in the off position only.
