Hi all, first post on here so hello!

Two things...

First of all, I'm going to do my first job by myself on Monday. I'm told it's a couple of 15 metre runs in a shop for what I'm guessing are 2 AC units. Am I right in thinking that all AC supplies are pretty straight forward all the same in the sense that an armoured is ran from the board to an isolator and then from the isolator to the unit?

Secondly, probably simple to you all but I've never even picked up one to have a look never mind connect one. How do you wire a dimmer switch? It's a remote/touch dimmer if that matters at all.

Thanks in advance! :)

The first part appears to be a rhetorical question, how can we judge or give advice, you appear to be unsure of precise specification.
The second part is easy, read the manufacturers instructions, if there are no instructions Email/phone the company or do a web search.:)

If you are supposed to be wiring 2 circuits for AC units, you can't be guessing it. Has someone else done all the calcs etc for the circuits or are you doing it on Monday?

Its not just a case of turning up and chucking in whatever size cable you have in the van you know

with your a/c units, check the rating and size cable accordingly, allowing for derating if necessary. each unit on it's own MCB , maybe have to fit a C type. and of course a local isolator for each. as for the dimmer switch question, thast's easy, same as a normal switch , C,L1,L2.

if youve done them before then there is no difference apart from circuit sizing to suit (if this part is beyond you then maybe post back with further info)

a switch is a switch and simply breaks the circuit no matter if its a dimmer or not wired exactly the same way.

good luck

Thanks for the comments guys.

Should have maybe said earlier that all the calculations have been made and cable is supplied for me from my employer etc. I'm just there to carry out the install, I don't have to do the maths and all that shabang (thankfully).

As for the dimmer switch, I pretty much figured that it could only be wired in the same way as any other switch.

Hi again, feeling pretty demoralised right now to say the least. Took me around 4 hours to complete the AC supply job today. This consisted of putting in 30 metres of SWA cable, and terminating two ends into the board and two ends into two high level AC units.

I was also asked to shorten the cable going to another AC unit as it had been repositioned making the cable far to long, and to move a piece of unistrut which was in the shop floor area. Then as I was getting on with the supplies I was asked to look at a camera which had been disconnected and couldn't work again once it was reconnected.

I didn't have the time to complete these last 3 tasks however after taking so long to do the first job :/

Just feel as if it took me far too long for what should have been a 2 hour job perhaps?

Thoughts and feedback much appreciated.
