We only recommend two add-ons and upgrades to our standard pv system:

  • ImmerSUN
  • SolarEdge

We also offer to install ....but do not recommend two monitors:

  • Owl
  • Wattson

However often times we come across companies recommending and offering:

  • Voltage Optimisation
  • Passiv Control Systems
  • Thermodynamic Panels

Now because of our own research and reading and participating in the numerous posts on this site about these three products we are staying well clear of them....

However I am wondering if there are any other add on products worth having a look at....

p.s. We are driving down to London this week to ECO BUILD...all the from North Fife....if we see anything of interest we will report back to this forum...

You never know you might see some wonderful things on the side of the M1......

In my view consider Eco-Eye Smart PV - it looks and works a whole lot better than the Wattson and is at a good price point. Not used the Owl. Will be interested in the Elios4You offering. I think there is a market for more sophisticated and integrated monitoring and reporting, as long as it does not cost too much.

You're absolutely right Bruce, focus on efficient use of excess energy (as oppose to simply exporting back to the grid) is at an all-time high at the moment, with options for local storage and/or consumption being developed as the industry grows. The Elios4You is a single-phase monitoring platform, utilising either Android or iOS devices and/or online dashboard, with bolt-on solutions for wireless control (TRVs, proportional immersion control, smart plugs/sockets etc) coming online in the next few weeks. It' s not the cheapest solution out there as it is quite comprehensive and doesn't scrimp on quality of CTs, voltage reference, GUI etc, but it is an excellent platform that is just one of many offerings from a company with quite a pedigree in wireless comms and software/hardware design (Greenologic).

Does the Elios show true power, compensating for different voltage levels and powerfactors?
Are there any prices available yet or if not how about a ballpark figure for just the unit on it's own?

@Digon - the Elios4You is one of the only devices to take into account voltage correction as it is a mains powered unit. Although using high-quality CTs to measure current (inherently innacurate), the device then corrects to achieve +/-2% accuracy using the voltage reference. Don't really want to publish trade prices on a public forum but please feel free to PM me for more details if you are an installer?
