The point is the in-line ones really disrupt reading of the material, and are often utterly irrelevant. For example I have been seeing guitar lessons of all things, and I am devoid of any musical ability! (NOTE when logged in as a paying member I don't get them)

While I get it that the site largely depends on advertisement for working out, it has to be careful not to "kill the golden goose" by driving away regular contributes, who are not paid, but provide the value that this site offers to the world+dog.

Side-adverts that are electrically relevant, fair enough. But as regulars will see the same stuff over and over again, it won't get click-throughs that matter. All it will do is drive folk to use ad-blocking plugins for their browsers, or just f-off out of disgust.

They could at least be a little more interesting!

Adblock Plus does a good job of keeping most of them down - every so often I open the site in my other browser and wonder what the hell is happening.

I imagine the Covid situation hasn't helped and it's always hard to find a balance. The google ad ones that follow you are just annoying though and usually trying to sell me something I bought a few days ago

Perhaps it's a way to push people into paying their membership.

It's certainly knackered the forum when using it on a phone.
