Just had a visit from Thompson Local wanting my dosh.
Up to now all my work has been gained by 'word of mouth' and adverts in 2 local papers. Things are quiet here so wanting to cast the net further.
I see no point in being in some great list but what's your experience of being in Yel.com or Thompson Local web with a link to my website?
Also, is a box ad in the Thompson Local book or Yellow Pages effective?
Are folks looking in the books now or do they go on the internet?
Obviously, I don't expect replies from other local (Southam, Warks) electricians!:devilish:
Thanks
Pete

Tompson Local just about paid for itself, Yellow Pages waste of time. Been going on word of mouth but have had a quiet couple of months. About to put an advert in a local magazine so will see how that goes. Websites can work if you do it right, believe or not I have over twenty websites for various products but still haven't got round to doing one for the electrical business....

Yes I would go for websites myself, it seems as though everyone is going online and typing in local electricians. If you make sure your website contains plenty text which google sees to be organic material then you will be placed higher up in their ranks. Also, you can't beat a wee bit of social media and get people liking your page...WOM on social networking sites in the way forward!

Cheers,
Fraser

There is an argument for advertising where everyone else does, but I recon Yell, BT and Tomson are too concerned with collecting advertising revenue than providing a useful directory service to the public so check out their books and websites and see how many electicians you will be competing with and how relevent they are to someone looking for electrical services.

If you have never done it before you are entering into a minefield of jargon and slick sales patter. Set your budget and stick to it.

I have wasted so much money on bad advertisingover the years, but I have learned by my many mistakes. Now I don’t byadvertising from anyone who calls me, but I research advertising that I want todo carefully. Most people who sell advertising are charlatans who will promiseyou the earth but are really only after your money and there bonus.

In the last few weeks, we've been bombarded by the 'police magazine' and the 'schools procurement magazine' sometimes 3-4 calls a day, the 'police magazine' being a total scam and the other one just a waste of money.
