Hi all.

Been asked by a client to move their existing night storage heater UP by about 2ft so that she can put a cupboard underneath.
Wiring wise it's not a problem, but having never moved one before I just wondered if anyone had any pearls of wisdom for me?

I've heard they're pretty heavy and I'm going to be working on my own - will this be an issue?!

thanks in advance for all advice/guidance!

on your own, you've no chance unless you strip all the bricks out, then rebuild once fitted. also, these heaters are meant to be floor mounted. doubt you'll be able to carry the weight on a couple of wall fixings.

Hmmm. That was what I was worried about...

I've only spoken on the phone and not visited yet, so there's a (small) chance it's just a wall mounted electric heater rather than Night Storage, but I guess I'll take a view on it!

cheers for advice.

I would imagine you would have to use some serious fixing on it if you did it. Personally I would just say no, you cant put it there. Also they are designed to be best effective on the floor.

they NEED to be fixed to the wall and there are a few instances of FLOOR mounted ones trapping old dears when they fall forwards Im sure I read about at least one death due to this ALSO manufacturers instructions will say FLOOR mounting
BTW When fixing to the wall you MUST use FIBER rawlplugs as heat over time will melt PVC ralplugs hence the falling forwards
While serving my time we had one old dear INSISTED and even got counciler to ORDER that we moved her storage heater to under the window Said window was 12inches from the floor Counciller was invited to see what he had ORDERED be done God we made him swallow his words

Personaly Id mount the cupboard on the wall that would be safer

Thanks Mogga & RISElectrical,
I'm inclined to agree that it's not the best plan in the world!
I'm hoping when I go out at the weekend that it's not actually Night Storage....fingers crossed.

thanks to all for your advice.
cheers

I thought I would save time n move a big storage heater myself without dismantling it.oh dear it topple forward and trapped me by tha ankle against a pile of wood the joiner had left.an xl 24 or similar weighs in at 150 kg, try lifting that off your foot!floormount only for obvious reasons.

All sorted!

Turns out when she'd said she wanted it moved 'up' what she really meant was 'along'.....as in "move it up the corridor" not "move it up the wall!"

Front off, bricks out, move bracket, bricks back in, front on, job done! :smug:

thanks to all for advice (even if, in the end it wasn't needed!) - made me feel a lot more confident going into it with my eyes open!
cheers all.
