Hi all
No disrespect to anyone were here to help and give our advice where we can but we do get some ask about how to install something and its ok my mate is an electrician and checks my work over etc etc but i wonder how many do get it checked and just asking so they install themselves with no testing, certs etc etc i just wonder if we went on the plummers forum and ask how do i install a new boiler ? i want to save money and my gas safe/corgi mate will check it over after ! what their answer would be ? as said no disrespect intended but it sounds like the non compliant part p work going on and we can help them with advice ! just wish people knew what they can and carnt do legally.
Regards
Kung.

totally agree, someone i know had a kitchen fitted last week by a local company, he was expecting a spark to turn up and do the electrics but the kitchen fitter did the electrics, when this bloke told me i asked if he tested anything and give him any certs ? his reply was "what certs did he need and he tested it by turning things on and off" i have heard loads of stories like this no certs and no testing and sometimes i think what was the point spending thousands on courses and testers when all i needed to do was buy a hammer, cordless drill, saw and a set of screwdrivers set myself up as a kitchen fitter and hey presto i am now a spark.

There probably is no point except somewhere somebody is getting our 500 quid or so every year for being good boys and complying with the law.

As we know there is so much going on that cannot be policed as it is unknown about.

I was in a wholesaler and a Polish chap asked for some armour cable, what size? asked the assisstant, about as thick as my thumb was the reply and a circuit breaker as well please, what size breaker do you want? said tha assisstant, what have you got? was the reply, everything 6, 10, 16, 20,32, 40, 50, 63 we have them all, and the reply from the pole "i don't know, give me a big one"
Luckily the assisstant refused him cable and MCB and asked him to leave

He should have gave him a sink plug and said just put that on the end its rubber/insulated and has adequate IP rating. :D

Trouble also is 80% of people i speak to dont know who Napit,Elecsa,Niceic or part p is let alown what if where when why etc etc so when they need electricial work done most get a DIYER to do the work they know ! considering how much money is in the system from our subs there should be a BIG advertising campaign ! we need it ! ask yourself who knows who CORGI is ? everyone ! i rest my case ! think we all need to contact our scheme providers and LABC etc and ask whats being done to promote PART P and our compliantcy ?

While B&Q etc sell electrical equipment to joe public DIY is going to happen. What the electrical industry needs is licenced electricians who know what they are doing. The Part P system is a waste of time, is a qualified non Part P spark going to pay somebody else to come and check electrical work in his own home.
My brother had an extension built in 2007, it was wired and certified by a Part P spark , I do not have a Part P qualification or assessment (which is why I did not wire it ) but do have over thirty years experience and the certificates to back it. In less than 2 minutes I found a number of non compliances without trying to hard who knows what others there may be. In short the Part P system is not there for safety but to allow the Inland Revenue to clamp down on the black economy and get more tax into the system. If it was there for safety all installations would come under Part P as I cant see the difference between doing work in a domestic kitchen or a commercial kitchen except that a commercial kitchen has alot more metalwork in it. My opinion is Part P should be ditched and a Corgi type scheme brought in licencing the individual electrician
