hi guys

i am getting to the point where i need to register with Elecsa for notifiable part P work.

i was wondering what type of Jobs would be substantial enough for the assessment.

Due to the configuration of my existing board adding new circuits is not possible without replacing the board which would involve removal of newly fitted kitchen/tiles so want to avoid

if i were to carry out all of the jobs below which i know are only circuit exstensions would it be enough for assessment?

example 1. supplying detached garage via sfcu (13amps) off ring main, via buried 2.5mm swa into garage to supply 1 double socket and two lights.(lights fused at 3 amps via sfcu. all wiring in garage within conduit.

example 2. install timed Bathroom fan via 3 pole isloator switch (fused down to 3 amps via fcu if required)

Example 3. Install External Power Socket (via sfcu off ring main)

many thanks.

The current board is an old Wylex NB type, it is only rated at 63 amps and incorparates the RCD in the main switch,

my original plan was to either fit a new electric shower circuit and shower (but the main switch rating is too low)

or run a 30amp supply to seperate garage CU from a spare way in the existing board. Sockets 20A radial Lights 6A Radial ( but concerns re rcd Main switch )

Not sure if you actually need to installl a seperate new circuit for assesment purposes or weather aditions to existing circuits is ok?

thats what i think too nikmet. after all circuit additions are really only minor works. just trying to find something where the existing board doesnt cause trouble. as i really dont want to have to replace it at this time.

When i rang up to ask mate they were quite keen on seeing as already mentioned a "substantional amount of work". She classified this as a CU change, which is the most common job done for assessment, or the addition of several new circuits.
i
was looking to install a new sub main in the garage then install a RFC and some SWA buried through the garden to supply some weather proof sockets and a lighting circuit in my shed. This was considered enough work. So i would ring them and double check and that is certainly the best way to get clarity on the matter.

Why don't you fit the tails into Henley blocks and then supply the existing board and a small consumer unit to run a new circuit for the garage perhaps?

This removes the need to actually replace the old board but still provides you with a notifiable job:D

thanks for the advice re splitting the tails, unfortunately there is just enough tail coming into back of CU to feed main switch. Dont think DNO would be happy if i used the meter box.

i think i may have to change the CU, now the existing tails are 25mm with a 16mm earth. Now im not sure if they have been run in the cavity up to the CU from the outside meter box or buried in the wall. would i need to replace these tails if they have been installed not to 17th regs or could i leave them in place and connect new CU ? if i can then the kitchen units and tiling wont need to be pulled down.

Having been with elecsa since the start, i can tell you that the assessor will want to se a fair representation of the type of work you carry out. So if your core business is stuff like kitchens, extensions and the like then he will want to see that kind of job. If next year at your annual revisit you have registered 20 CU's 5 rewires and so on, then you take him to see a radial circuit with 3 or 4 sockets it wont wash. They are fair, and in 5 or so years i haven't had a minutes problem with them and i would highly recommend Elecsa.

Cheers..........Howard

You'll see lots of Henley blocks in meter cupboards. Sometimes its the only way!

Speak to Elecsa, they are very approachable and will help guide you as to what they want to see.
