Hi,
I am preparing for a new kitchen where I will be going from a double oven to a single oven + microwave oven.
As the oven is also changing location I am planning on joining a new 6mm cable in the ceiling void with a 60amp box as it is easier than running a new length from the fuse. Firstly is this OK?

The new oven is 2.85kw and the micro is 1.99kw so im pretty sure the 6mm is fine to run them both from what i have read?
From the cooker switch do they both need to be 6mm feeding each appliance?

Many thanks.

Your new oven and microwave will most likely come with a plug fitted, complete with 13a fuse. Extend your 6mm as you intend, but make sure the JB is accessible somehow. Then stick a twin socket on the end of it. Job done. I must also point out that this work is notifiable under part P.

Cheers..........Howard

Thanks Howard.
So the 6mm straight to a double socket then plug the ovens in?
I thought the oven at least would need its own 6mm?
I will be having an electrician checking all of my work and then i shall be sticking to tiling :)

There is some argument that anything over 2Kw should have its own supply. But these are plug in appliances (check that the oven has a plug fitted). The oven wont pull its full rating anyway, well not for long, it will cycle on and off on the thermostat when in use. the microwave is different, but don't worry about it. If they plug in appliances you will have no issues.

Cheers............Howard

Hum, no professional Part P sparky will sign off work done by a DIYER.

Our schemes forbid this.
Thinking about it I would prefer not having a join in the 6mm so im going to pull through a new length and let a part P sparky connect it all up.

OK thanks i will check what the appliances come with

This is notifiable, as already said. Get a part P registered electrician to sort this mate, as I think you will be wasting your money pulling in a new 6mm. Certainly not how I would do it...

I was asked this last week and i felt to say in the converation that i dont pay £444 a year to sign off diyers wok.anyhow i said its me that does the work or nothing.no reply lol

Personally I hate ovens/cookers on 1363 plugs and will aways put in a separate circuit. I go with what Sirkit says for anything over 2kW, think about overloading the legs of the ring.
