Hi all, I am in the process of setting up on my own (yes anouther one), and am planning to register with napit. My question is, how do you sign off jobs prior to having your assessment, as if you do it to the law, all jobs must be notified, but you cant do that unless you are under a competent person scheme. I understand that you can contact the local building inspector, but explaining that to a customer, I think would put them off giving me the work.

speak to napit. they will advise on the correct procedure. it is always best to do a job for somebody you know for your assessments. explain the situation to them. and please use a larger font. my eyes ain't what they used to be. LOL.

9 out of 10 assements jobs I would think are done in either your own home or family and friends. The 10th one for a customer IMO would be offer them a materials only job after explaining what you intend to do. Then you phone the LABC and advise them what you are doing and they will advise accordingly.

I would imagine if it's a customer orintated job the LABC would be more stringent with you. IMO do a CU change at home or a family members home, that way you can test it, test it some more and if you like test again, to get yourself use to doing the tests.
