 Hi, A relative of mine has been asked by a company to lease the roof to them to fit PV cells.
I was wondering if it would be worth while, they are out all day, so not much power used ,which would mean the company would be able to claim the tarrif for supplying power into the grid.
I am also not sure of the future implications regarding house value and if they move house considering the roof is leased for 25 years by the company.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated Cheers Jim:grin:

I would think carefully about this I think it is always better to collect the the FITs yourself it is better in the long run

Have heard that mortgage lenders are reluctant to lend on a property with a sitting tenant on the roof, so if you want to sell the house your buyer might not get the loan.

This is absolutely not true and there is no foundation in this rumour at all. Mortgage companies have to approve the lease for the PV panels to go on in the first place. Actually what the solar companies are leasing is the airspace above the roof technically. There is no stipulation for the PV companies to be asked permission when a sale is occurring. All that happens is the lease transfers to the new home owner

It makes more financial sense for home owners to purchase the pv system to gain the FIT which is a long term investment. However if the home owner does not have the money or want to take out a loan for the system this is an effective way of cutting some costs of their electricity bill. Using timers to operate washing machines and water heaters during the day would help.
