P

paulthe spark

Lookin for a little advice on the layout of circuits at my board. reason im askin is we have just started fitting dual rcd boards where i work where previously it was single rcd. Anyway another spark told me to put upstairs ring with downstairs lighting and downstairs ring with upstairs lightin on the other rcd. Does this sound ok? also which side would you put the cooker, smoke alarm, bell, heating, etc?
any help much apreciated
thanx

Hi.

The other spark is pretty much on the money with the up/down lights and sockets split, it's so as you dont loose all circuits on one floor in the event of fault (minimise inconveniance).

With the other circuits just balance them out between the two RCD's i.e cooker on one heating on the other etc. Perhaps if the cooker point has a socket outlet on board, it could go on the other RCD to the kitchen ring circuit so if the sockets were lost the cooker point would still be live.

I'm putting Lights on Main Switch via an RCBO at the mo, that way you can balance the rest of your cirucits, how you like and the lights will never go out if either of the two RCDs trips. Careful of old 2 way switching wired across 2 circuits using a borrowed neutral though.
