Hi Guys been asked to install a flood light in a barn on a riding school. The barn is full of hey.

The light is likely to be on all day and the barn is quiet large so needs to be quite bright to give good light.

Obviously this comes under agricultural in the brb and is a special location.

The advice I am looking for is what type of light do you think would be best to fit. It will be mounted on a wooden joist, so i know it must be suitable for mounting on a flammable surface and IP rated at IP54 due to the dust & moisture. Any reccomendations on a light?

Also, I will be using a 1.5 swa, the total run including switch is about 30m, i have to go under a pathway to a field, so i know the cable must be buried atleast 0.6m, but with additional mechanical protection that can withsatnd 5 Joules of impact, would a standard metal conduit be suitable to this, or is there a more rigid type available.

Obviously this is my first agricultural job, so just want to get it right, all advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Craig

Don't trust this as gospel just my opinion.

I would tend to consider if it is possible installing more lights at lower wattage if possible as high wattage lights tend to be very hot (not a good choice in a hay barn). Consider using LED lighting as this is cooler or multiple fluorescents.
1.5 SWA should be OK for voltage drop, just try and ensure no one is likely to tap in a socket somewhere!
Remember to have RCD protection as appropriate (300mA fire protection).
Most general metal conduit I think is rated to about 2J you need items with IK08 impact rating for 5J.

Make sure they are not likely to use water jets in the area (washing down horse manure) for the IP rating.
Hope it goes well.
