Public indemnity insurance is a must have
The problem with Pirs, especially domestic, is that they are generaly a reluctant requirement by the customer
Its wanted by an insurance company or its a landlord fulfilling his duty of care by way of a Pir
Firstly the Pir is open to anybody who can sign their name on the bottom of a piece of paper
Secondly they are accepted off rouges and incompetents by these landlords for as cheap a price as they can get
The prices are rarely compatable with doing a proper Pir,they are generally so low that making a living competing against other buisness and doing the job properly.is almost impossible
Large rouge firms corner the market in the game, and are encouraged by the likes of the Niceic with visual inspections that are passed off as some sort of safety certificate
Unless pirs become regulated, the prospect of anybody making a decent living for doing a competent job is very low
Whilst the 2391 is a benchmark, along with experience, that us electricans may use for competence for doing Pirs, the rest of society including the scheme operators seem to disregard competency
I know the Niceic includes a stand alone assessment for domestic Pirs, but their lack of support for individual competence destroys any chance that test and inspection will ever be a true and level playing field
Nice ambition, but a difficult route to earning a living I would suggest
