Advice on rewire please

Hi guys, I have just started up on my own, and looks like I have won a job to rewire a 5 bedroom house, over 3 floors. The property also has a basement, which the client wants to treat as a seperate entity, own cu.
The client is looking to rent out the two units. My background is mainly commercial/industrial therefore my question is are there any situations that I should be aware off. I know this is a bit of a cheek asking, but advice would gratefull, thanks

High tower makes a good point.

If i were you then i would be having a look at Approved document P, and the Electricians guide to the building regs for starters. I say this because of your background, and make the assumption Domestic is not your strong point due to your post.

To the job.

Split the supply with a henley, for your 2 CU's.

I would be supplying each floors lights and sockets from seperate RCBO's.

Is there a lanlords supply needed for communal lighting etc?
Do you need a fire alarm or interconnected smoke alarms?
Do you need emergency lighting?

You need to find out for your client, as you may both make some very expensive mistakes. Ask your local council what the latest requirements are for rented accommodation. There are loads of different rules and regs that they implement and it difffers from council to council.

Cheers......Howard

I would buy the IEE Electricians Guide To The Building Regulations worth its weight in gold on house bashing all the facts you need. Make sure if your not registered you tell building control at least two weeks before you start and pay them there fee. If you need more information on IEE Electricians guide to Eemergency Lighting and IEE Electricans Guide to Fire detection and Alarm systems. Cheap and could save you a great deal of time and money if you make a mistake. Plan and Plan again get it all sorted and priced as it could catch you out all on paper and agreeded with the owner. Make a methodical aproach and get a floor done at a time always worked top floor to ground.Good luck as some domestic customers are very hard work and get the place as empty as posible will save a great deal of time and see what power will be required to be left on take the board out and put a tempary boad in and a few power points if needed.
