Hi guys/gals,
doing a domestic PIR. The "former" cooker circuit radial (6mm on a 32 amp type B) appears to have had the ccu removed and a kitchen ring (serving 7 dss) joined where the ccu used to be. This appears to have been done when a new kitchen was fitted 5 or more years ago. Now I can't access the end of this radial (where I believe the ring has been created) without demolishing the kitchen - not an option.

I would welcome views as to how this circuit should be recorded, tested and, if appropriate, coded. I'm kinda surprised that I have not come across this arrangement before now - I'm guessing it's not that uncommon?

Views/advice welcome!

Thanks.

There is not a great deal that can be done really as far as current carrying capacity is concerned a 6mm cable should be fine on a 32 amp protection device, unless the erection method is 101 or 103 and you would not know that in anyway even if it was a proper ring doing a PIR

Again providing that all your tests are within limits and though unconventional if it's safe then there is not a lot to be done.

About the only place you can code it would be in association with appendix 15 and where a ring final circuit should start and finish at the distribution board, but appendices are informative except for appendix 1 which should be used as normative, so are they really as enforceable as the other sections of the regulations.

If it were me and there was no obvious signs of damage I would be putting a code 4 on it and in the part of the PIR under summary of inspection note the appendix and it's recommendation

Thanks Malcolm, much as I thought.

As far as readings are concerned, I have those for the ring, but I obviously can't record for the radial part of the circuit (as I can't acess one end). Do I simply provide the readings for the ring and note on the cert as per your response?

Regards.

You would have thought they'd have a switch to flick on and off to engage an override. Not on each PIR but an actual light switch
