Hi all,

I want to pre-fix this post with a disclaimer: I am not an electrician, I have no clue about such things which is why I come on here looking for advice. What I am asking may be completely ridiculous, so please if it is, say so. I do not intend to carry out any of this work myself, but instead ask a qualified electrician to do on my behalf.

I have a security light outside (black generic floodlight style) which I would like to power a small security camera instead of the light with the same feed.

The current of the mini camera I believe to not exceed 2A, and the interface is a mains plug. If a suitable electrian could route the wires into the attic neatly, is this possible on a circuit presumably designed for lights?

Theoretically it could be done but it would not be good practice if it is off the dedicated lighting circuit.
However if you are getting a electrician in to do it he will probably take the supply off the socket circuit (if not allready off it) or even put a new supply in for it depending.

Isnt there a light circuit in the attic already?
Can't you tapp off this as its only one camera? They draw about 450mA don't they (depending on the camera type)

I'm sure the electrician who does the job will advise you but from what you said I can't see any problems as has been said the camera doesn't take alot
