Hi all, my name is matthew and im 24 years of age.
I have no previous experience at all of electrical work but its something I have looked into, and something I really want to do.

After calling probably over 300 companies, I managed to get 1 of them to say yes, they are doing a full house re-wire starting on monday and they are willing to let me come along and get some hands on experience, allthough i wont be getting paid which I dont mind about as I just want to get involved.

Where should I go from here ?
Im hoping if I try my best, but effort in and show interest they may let me tag along with them on other jobs and eventually may even employ me.

I was looking on my local college website yesterday and there is a electrical apprenticeship course for 4 years, which will give me my nvq 3 etc...

Is this the best route ? And what other advice could you guys give me.

Thanks very much for any help and advice, much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum ...............and yes IMO the longer training method you have outlined is the best route for training.

Just a few pointers that I hope will help you out. When on site with the guys don'tr be afraid to ask questions, leave the mobile switched off, don't give a look if your asked to get something from the van or clean up, as that is what apprentices do.

I hope it goes well for you and the best of luck

Hi Malcolm and thanks for your reply.
I just hope they will keep me on after this job and not leave me back at square 1 where i started as i feel this is the first step to getting where I want to be.

And as you said, I dont mind cleaning, carrying, tea boy etc... Ive got to start somewhere and I understand this.

I appreciate your input.
Thanks again
Matthew

Hi Matthew

Any recognised apprenticeship will get you a NVQ but you will need employment to get hands on experience to complete it

You will do the City and guilds 2330 level 2 and then level 3. Sit an AN2 practical test and finally complete a portfolio of 3 jobs for your NVQ

Good luck mate
