Hi,

I just need some general advice please. I employed a member that had told me that he was Part P and registered to give out Certificates. I believed the Electrician due to the fact that I see him on a regular basis and he looked genuine with a van etc. The job that he did for me was cut short because he believed that what what he quoted me for and what I asked had changed. He created no work order or contract which I became suspicious. I then called a meeting with him and then we resolved the issues and came to a compromise. Further down the line he then became unprofessional and even myself not knowing much about electrics became suspicious because part of the work I asked for him to do he had no idea how to do this.

I called him off the job and never to return, I told him to communicate through Solicitors only. Upon further investigation have been told by his Registered Body that he is Suspended and a Non-Active member. They would not give me any further details but advised me to contact Trading Standards.

Where I need to advice is that it has cost me a lot to put his work right, the quality of his work was not up to regulations. I have photo evidence, full report on his work as well as eye witness accounts that he was the only electrician on the job. I need to know from everyone's experience how I go about recovering my losses as well as reporting him for working unsupervised whist being suspended and notifying his customers?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Shere
Welcome to the forum ! bit of a tough one this one but you may be able to go to a small claims court worth checking ! citizens advice bureau may help but again im not sure ! Did you contact trading standards ?

Hi Shere , sorry to hear that you have come across a apparent bad apple .
I think the course of action for you to take is contacting his ex scheme provider again to ask for some more professional support than what has been provided at the moment , and also contact trading standards as already suggested .
I would personally say it would not be very professional for any of the members of this forum to get involved further as this will most likely be going legal , plus there is always two sides to every story and by not hearing theirs as well i fell it is not that fair ?

Does make you think if their work is that bad how they passed the assessment in the first place although it may have been another person who passed for them ! bit like drivers really some good some how the devil did they pass if they did !
good advice from dpelectricalltd !

Hi, thanks for the advice and very much appreciated. There are 2 factors to note here. The first is the incompetency of the Electrician and badly peforming the wiring, connections, ring, not shielding the new cables etc. And the second point is the recovery of my losses in appointing another company to investigate the work currently been done, scratch their heads and find out how it has been wired as well as correct the work.

I dont think I would have got a certificate, and not at any point if the Electrician was Suspended was there anyone else at the site overlooking his work.
