Hi all

I've been looking at doing an electricians training course and wondered if anyone could give me some advice on what the courses are like, cost, timescales and how easy it is to get work once you qualified.

Thanks

I would reccomend doing the 2330 qualification 1 day a week for 3 years (about 800 quid a year) and trying to find employment with an electrician whilst doing the course to get some on site experience. At the moment there are a lot of sparks out of work (check the electricians unite jobs in your area forum). There are short courses you can do but personally i would not reccomend doing one of these.

Thanks for the reply
Wasn't thinking of waiting 3 years, was hoping to get some qualifications much quicker and get working, may have to review plan now!

You could do a shortcourse and be qualified in months but in my experience college courses and on site skills are 2 very different things! It is definately worth trying to get a job in the industry before shelling out loads of money for qualifications.

ive just started the 2330 L2 at my local college and theres a choice of either doing 2 days a week for 36 weeks of the year for level 2 (which has a course price of around $1030). But you could also do the night course but thats a 2 year course at level 2 . as were the day course is only 1 year at level 2 and another year at level 3. as L3 is only 1 day a week .

It depend on your age and experience are you working with in electrical industry, if you are not I would do the 2 day course if you can afford the loss of earning, I believe you will get more practical and after 1 year you maybe able to get work, working with an electrician.

Most night course are for older student or those working within the industry.

Great, best of luck for the coming year, and make sure if you do not understand anything that you ask your tutor to explain it and and you can also post question on this site if you need help, but we may not do your homework.
