Hi all,

I am in the process of fitting a new ceiling light, and thought to seek some advice before connecting anything. The fitting itself has three terminals live earth and neutral, and the light cables in the room have 6 wires, two red two black and two bare earth wires. I have also added some photos of the fitting and cables, would appreciate some help on what wires go into what terminals.

Thanks in advance addy

One of the cables is the permanent live and neutral . The other is the switched live probably. There is no way I could know without doing some basic testing.

If you don't have a tester or any basic experience in testing then I agree with Andy-1960.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful

Dear admin, alongside the like, dislike, agreed. etc etc. buttons, can we maybe also have a 'Cringe' or 'Duck a cover' button.

OP, please if you're needing to ask these questions, you need to get a suitable qualified or competent person in. From the picture, you're installing a metal light fitting on older coloured cables, not only do you need to ensure the cables are correct in the fitting, you should also confirm continuity of the CPC back to your CCU, for safety sake.
