Hi all,not your usual "how can I get offshore?I've no experience or qualifications but want a £60-70000 a year job"!!!
I've been " offered" a job within the oil and gas industry but not offshore.
Hi guys, read through the thread a few weeks back and some great points.
I'm after a little bit of advice from those who are/have worked offshore for any significant period.
I'm an industrial control spark with nigh on 20 years experience, ford apprentice trained and I'm proud to

say have a pretty impeccable work record.
I came up to Aberdeen to get offshore(naively) last January (2011) and realising it was gonna be pretty hard and expensive I decided to sign on with an agency as I couldn't believe how many well paid jobs were in the area as back home in Swansea there were, well, none!!
Anyway,I got a job in a papermill literally a week later as a shift spark and it's been great, but I still long to get offshore and I'm preparing to do the COMPEX course ASAP but I'm now in a bit of a quandary.
I've been given an email address from a mate of mine for jobs in GE in Aberdeen and the nature of the job is in the oil and gas industry.
My question is do you think this would be a good way to get offshore,i should make a few more contacts this way and possibly even get out there to test the equipment giving me offshore experience?
Moneywise it's about the same if not better than where I am now and it's 4 on 4 off which suits me pretty well also.
My only fear is better the devil you know than the devil you don't etc but the job I'm in is fine but there's no real chance of promotion and even if there was I'd be on less money!!!
Descisions descisions!!!
Any advice greatly appreciated.
