Air con start capacitor

Hi all

I have query with the wiring on a Mitsi' Mr Slim air con capacitor. The circuit diagram shows the capacitor wired in line on the live out put from the contactor to the start terminal on the compressor, how can this work as a capacitor without a neutral connected?.

it provides an energy surge that shoves the motor into action, some motors would just buzz and not start rotating otherwise.....it is an inline set up for this...
