Hallo.

Does anybody have any helpful information on training to be an aircraft electrician?
I'm currently a qualified installer but I've been looking at other types of electrical work, ships, aircraft etc...

I've been on the airbus uk website and they offer apprenticeships but I can't really seem to find out how to get any
more information. Same goes for the ships, it entails going to university I think but it's like getting blood from a
stone to find a way into training or getting any further information for that type of thing.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Tommy.

aircraft may be a different thing, ships will be easier, even tho we dont build ships anymore...you could try the yards tho more chance with marine companies doing refits, you could try dml or even join the merchant navy as a spark..

Yeah the merchant navy offer training as an electrical officer, like you go on board the ship etc. I really like the idea of that but it's so hard to find out what I need to do, they're going on about UCAS points but I didn't think you needed them after a certain age because I'd be classed as a mature student. Ah well, cheers, I'll have a look through the companies etc. What's dml?

T.Glass, i come from an aerospace background and i would say the only way you'll be let loose on aircraft electrics, even under 100% supervision (which you would be until you get your CAA licences), would be through a recognised aircraft electrical apprenticeship, so airlines, private aviation companies, the forces or the MOD.
i think ships would be more interesting and the aerospace industry died in many ways on 9/11.
there are a few ex aircraft sparks and avionics technicians on here.
