Hi does anyone know ho to go about getting airside clearance?

There are several jobs advertised that requires this. I spoke to the jobcentre and they told me that I have to get this first before applying for the job. I spoke to East Midlands airport and they dont seem to know either.

Thanks in advance
Debbie

As far as I'm aware, you have to get the job before BAA will give you clearance.... I may be wrong but it sounds like jobcentre are talking out of their various orifices as usual.

Yes, that is correct, you have to find the job before you can go through the proceedures for Airside clearance, but in my experience it is somewhat of a catch-22 situation as it is very difficult to get a job without clearance but you cannot get it without a job. I have a feeling that the company has to bear the costs involved so they are a bit cautious of taking on someone, paying for the clearance and then that person goes off to a different company, leaving them out of pocket.

I am not certain how long it takes to get the clearance and that might be a off putting factor.

I think this is correct but it is a few years since I looked into this situation.

Every job ive every applied for needing airside clearance they basicaly refuse to put you through it but as rocker says you need a job before they will start the clearance procedure.

Good to see East Midlands are no better than they were 10 years ago

Did some work there and they wanted £25m liability insurance for my vehicle to go airside (it was suggested I might crash into a plane), when we revised the job quote by £850 for the 3 days insurance cover to do the job the airport finance director decided that they would cover it cheaper. It also made me realise how these terrorists get away with what they do when I went through the search to get airside

What are the job details if you dont mind me asking? Im in the Leicestershire area and may be intrested if there are other vacancies

the easiest way is to retrain as a pilot - pretty sure they get clearance during training - there are various fast track one week courses available and a massive shortage of pilots.

hope this helps :)

first of you need to have a good liability insurance coverage. normally you can get a five day temporary pass and go from there (issued to you via the company asking to carry out the work) the only problem with this type of pass is you have to be escorted all time. If you require a longer/ permanent pass you will need to have a CIS check and witness statement etc.this takes about 4-6 weeks, and still needs to be issued from the company asking you to carry out the work there is a cost involved in this type of pass.

hope this helps it can be a pain, it all depends on the airport.
