First of all i know this is probably the wrong section but it wont let me post to the right 1.
i've been asked to quote among other things for a wireless home security system, the customer doesn't want pir's as he likes to watch tv during the night, so its door contacts and window sensors but the main reason for the alarm is perimeter security and all i can think of is ir beams that get broken as they're path is crossed but im thinking this would be asking for trouble from fox's , cat's etc... any1 got any ideas on this?

motion sensors should be ok unless he want's to set the whole system while he's still walking about,
When you say perimeter security are you talking about the property or the perifery of the property .

I.R beam's would be very expensive if you did it properly

the customer doesn't want pir's as he likes to watch tv during the night,?

How does this effect the function of PIR's?

You normally have a part set suite with perimeter lockdown, so the occupants can move around with out setting the alarm off.
Full Set for when they go out.

This is the way our security guys normally do things

Yes but they a proper job! Green Army:D

Thanks for the replys, For some reason he is adament he doesnt want pir's, main reason being they're already in the house and thats too late he says lol fair point! Its a large bungalow set back off a main road, so i think i'm just going to recommend door contacts and windows sensors set for double knock (vibration from HGV's) I will offer him the pir's but i doubt he will take them :s cheers guys and ill check out those links ;)

Then he'll be wanting security shutters, a moat & some Doberman's

To be honest can't see what else apart from what you've mentioned you can do.

I'm sure he'll be the first to moan if either...

He gets broken into and the alarm doesn't sound (You'll need to cover your self for this as well, document refused PIR's)

Or

The alarm goes off every time ali G the local boy racer bass bins it past his property.
Plus I've heard strong wind can be a problem (well it has been with the alarm installers I employ) no seriously wind moving the glass / pressure

I deal with security as my main trade so i should be able to help -

Depending on the customers exact requirements there are a number of options you can do -

You can set alarms to perimeter arm for example just the entry or exit zones, also part set no need to arm the PIR zones.

There are a number of external sensors available this will depend on range, beamwidth etc.

Be careful when choosing sensors for external use. the best is rewall sensors but they are expensive.

You could also look at the GJD system this can be combinded with lighting and a master unit which will chime when movement is detected outside, the GJD sensors are also cheaper than redwalls.

I fit a fair bit of GJD stuff and the customers love the stuff, you can also wire this to a panel or sounder if you need sirens etc.

One of the most reliable wireless systems is the infinite prime, you can also get a wireless add on unit if he has a wired panel in already.

, so i think i'm just going to recommend door contacts and windows sensors set for double knock (vibration from HGV's) ;)[/QUO

I wold avoid standalone vibration detectors if you are going to enable double knock, its possible to break a window when configured like this without activating the alarm, If this is the intention, I suggest considering vibration sensors linked to an analyser, they offer pulse count and gross attack functionallity.

Hello Tony-
I'm Marco - sorry you consider this as Spam - point of views -
Those are products and solutions in an application field that is Security, and perimeter protection and what are solutions and technologies for this application.
I write for them, and for this I'm interested in the topic to better understand what kind of other applications are available in this field, even in order to have a better view.
That's all, I don't share your opinion 'cause if everyone here is interested in this kind of argument and issues, mine is a valid contribution anyway. More infos and more know how, the better someone can be informed and have more options to choose.
have a great evening
