Hi Guys as many of you already know I have lived and worked in Spain for 22 years now so well out of touch with many UK regs etc. Well Ive been to a restaurant today and the kitchen totally wired for 3 phase so all 3 phase sockets 5 Pin so here's the Q they have a extractor hood single phase which plugs into the 3 phase socket with a five pin plug with L1, N and E connected never seen this before just out of interest would it be allowed in UK ?
cheers

We do it all the time at work. I carry a short lead with a 16A 3P+N+E (red plug) one end of a bit of HO7RNF and a double 13A Duraplug socket the other. Just tap off L1, N and Earth. This is on existing sites NOT construction sites where they would string me up! Got one for 32A as well. Of course in my instance I do have a fuse in the 13A plug.

We used to have to do similar for the temporary supplies we installed at ascot racecourse. When all you've got single phase 125A distribution box to install and all you have is a 125A TP&N socket then there is no other option.
Naturally a consideration of competency of persons and balancing of phases was taken into account.

We have a number of these for 63/3 to 63/1 for certain stage distros. As Widdler says, it's down to the competency of the persons involved, as long as the maths adds up and it's all suitably protected then there's no problems.
