We have been to see a potential customer for a PV system. From listening to what he was saying, we suggested that he'd really benefit from a Solar Thermal system. He agreed and we told him that we'd allow some space in our design for a future install of a Solar Thermal system.

Can anyone give me an idea of how much space to leave? He has a family of four and live in a 3 bedroom semi.

We've had this asked before also. Unless there's a design for the Thermal than how are you expected to know what size they are. Like PV collectors come in different sizes.

Thats good to know Worcester but can I ask how you come to this conclusion and how we could transfer this to other properties as a guide?

Simply because we've done a few combined installs, I teamed up with a local plumber that was registered under the old scheme and we did them at the same time (saved on scaffolding and electrics) .

He doesn't like the look of the new MCS requirements (there's a suprise:) ) for the RHI so may do his future work under our wing and brand.

Good opportunity to establish that relationship now and benefit in the future.

Most solar panels are around 1000mm x 2000mm. Most systems are sized to the volume of water to be heated. A good guide would be 1 panel per 100L volume. Therefore 1 panel -100L, 2 panels - 200L, 3 panels - 300L...

Dont bother with the water side. Does he have an imerssion heater? if he does put more pv panels on and fit an emma unit. He benifits from more cash also no maintenance plus cheaper overall. I have 3.9 kw and 50 thermal tubes from an earlier installation. I am looking to remove the water and fit more pv and sell on the tubes.
