Bottom line Alu cable was and is cheaper than copper and was utilised mostly for larger CSA as a saving, I even remember in the 70's Alu cable for smaller CSA.

The trouble with Alu was

1. It is not a good a conductor as copper so it needed to be larger in CSA and on big cables it was a nightmare.

2. Termination needed to be adreessed at it often reacted to the brass in terminals and had to be treated or lugged.

I think the HV side of things still use Alu, but very few designers ask for it today and I don't think I would .

customer got the cable off a friend  lol

he realy wanted some 4mm swa 3core for his shed power.

I thort this cable was pretty new has it was in harmonised brown sheath over alu copper was brand new on armourings and it was stamped on cable 2011. found that out when i stripped it.

any thoughts on what it was used for.? Is dno cable ( main feed ) THIS SORT OF CABLE
