Hi just new to this forum , I've been asked to wire a log cabin in a field and the nearest supply is at the stables 70m away , this is where the situation gets a bit tricky, the stables are fed by a aluminium concentric cable which looks like a25 mm aluminium Centre core with copper cores for the outer .This cable is fed at the main gate to the land which is approx 130m away , I am struggling to find any information on current carrying capacity of aluminium concentric cable in regs or tinternet , I've rang bicc cables and Doncaster cables to no avail. P.S The cable is buried .
Any help ...............

Hi jim the meter position is at main gates with a pme supply going to a 60 amp switch fuse which supplies the aluminium concentric cable up to the stables to a 60 amp cut out fuse which then feeds the stables DB with earth rod /RCD protection, so not the suppliers installation to the stables position

Try and identify a manufacturer and then contact them for details, I have had a quick look and cannot find anything as small as 25mm² in a single aluminium core copper concentric conductor.
Some of the cable manufacturers have specifications of their cables on their websites and they should at least have the csa of the conductors that can give you a start.

Hi tony the cable is the topkind but with a black plastic outer sheath i too suspect its been done on the QT by the DNO lads as the cable is not off the shelf cable, Richard i will try and gain access to the cable but promlem lies with it burried with not much on show , cheers for input so far.

This type of cable shouldn't be used for direct burial under BS7671, so should only be buried when pull into duct!! ...The DNO have there own regulations, but even then, is only usually direct buried for short distance as far as i'm aware. The main DNO distribution cables usually being Wavecon.

Hi again ive got a bit more info on my situation, the cable markings are ...... WESSEI 1 x 35mm xlpe bs 7870 plain and it comes up with the DNO supply cable ducting to the meter enclosure, the other end access is not that good to see if comes up in duct all the way up field

Any more help appreciated..............

Wessel cable is now part of ABB so it may be worth calling them and seeing if they can send you a spec.

You have a single core straight concentric cable 35mm² aluminium conductor with copper concentric layer, as E54 says probably wavecon.

Generally a 35mm² aluminium cable can take a bit over 140A, however you should really know the specs of this inappropriate cable.
