Got a contract where a solid alu 4 core armoured cable (we think it's 50mm) is to be reused. As it's serving a tpn supply there is an issue as to whether the armouring can be used as a CPC,as there will be no spare cores.
Now I assumed..(didnt check on site!)...that the armouring would also be aluminium and contacted a cable manufacturer to get the CSA spec for the cable armouring...only to be informed that the armouring would almost certainly be steel,if so we have the info to check this as a CPC.....as I'm not going back to site does anyone know for sure if it's steel or alu on these cables?

I'd be incredibly surprised if it was an AWA multicore. I'd be 100% certain it will be SWA.

AWA is only used on single core cables as it's non-magnetic.

one thing to note, all alu cables ive ever seen, dont use screw terminations like normal, they use clamps. inm guseeing trhat this is to stop deformation of the cable at operating temp.
also, is there any precautions you have to take regarding disimilar metals, ie jointing compound?

Yeah you may need the proper joining crimps. Did one a few weeks ago, its quite expensive though.
Had to hire the hydraulic tool, dies to round the conductor from a half moon / triangle shape to round them and the sleeves you crimp onto the ends, also have to use a jointing compound inside the crimps.
