Morning all,

Have fitted a light at the bottom of a garden on the gate post, its a G9 capsule lamp, anyway the customer keeps "closing" the gate and the lamp keeps blowing.
would i be right in thinking when he is "closing" the gate, the vibrations are blowing the lamp? if so is there any other way around this compared to changing the fitting.
(before anyone says, yes i know you cant touch the lamp, and it was a stupid fitting to put there, however i didn't source the fittings)

Cheers all
Danny

If it's a fitting that has a flush back plate screwed on to the post, try using some rubber washers or gromits in between, they MIGHT just take enough of the shock out - a bit like engine mounts in a car. You might also look at changing the orientation of the fitting so that the filament is having gravity work with it, not against it.

Other than this, simply a case of wrong tool for the job, as you've already said.

Just like rockingit has said, he beat me to it, althought i would have made a slightly alternative suggestion. you can buy anti vibration matting in various widths and dimensions from most well stocked trade outlets or hardware stores, not expensive to buy, but you may have to cut the matt to fit your mounting. Its pretty impressive stuff though mate and cost effective.

Reminds me of one many years ago where the was an incandecant lamp fitting in a certain part of the engine room which the lamp had to be replaced every day as it had blown.

What ever we did would not cure the problem, we even mounted it on a spare pair of resilent mount from the washing machine and it still didn't cure it.
