Sorry if this is in the wrong section..

i'll keep things simple though :-

# Im 23

# i've got 5 years experiance

# i've passed my AM2 (1st time)

# I've passed my 2330 part 3

# i've passed my NVQ level 3

# im doing my 17th ed which i take the test for on 24th(ish) june

# i've done my own jobs

# I can test (not got my 2391 but i was an apprentice to an experienced tester who i learnt off)

# when signing official test sheets put together by my boss in the office on his computer.... my position is given as electrician

# above gives me an inclination im been charged out as a spark

# my firm is a J.I.B company

But my wage is ÂŁ6.50 an hour

Thoughts and opinions on what im doing and what i should do please??

Cheers

Matt!!

no doubt he is charging you out as an electrician. making a packet off you. it`s a shame he does not value as you should be. if i were you i would go in and have a word with him and ask when you will be rewarded wage wise as per your qualifications. it`s then up to you what you want to do when he gives you the things are tight talk and the company may be busy but we are not making much etc. i know where i would be heading at 6.50 an hour with your experience and qualifications. the thing you need to do is decide if your going to stop around until you find other work in the current climate.

If your firm is JIB your at least at Improver but from my knowledge your JIB graded electrician. Seriously underpaid! You can give your boss a sort of ultimatum but prepare for the worse!

Treat your staff like monkey's eventually they'lle go nuts!

1.) Approach him with reasons of why you feel undervalued and reasons why you should be paid more ~ do this without emotion or fear, calmly explain that you understand that times are difficult but point out that this also applies to you.
2.) Bide your time
3.) Apply to other companies that appear to have orders on their books (make sure you state that references can be made available once an offer of employment is made)
4.) Go self employed on the side, breaking away once you have established yourself.

FFSFFSFFS ÂŁ6.50 is daylight robbery Id find another job sharpish then if hes JIB or has other sparks take him to an industrial tribuneral as he is undoubtedly underpaying / undervaluing you

your definately underpaid mate! an unqualified labourer is entitled to ÂŁ10.50 ph under JIB rules. Alot of firms will take advantage of you if you let them, but also, there are firms out therewho are happy to pay a fair wage for a good tradesperson.

good luck mate

I am desperatly trying to increase what I am paying to my friend and collegue, but it really is hard out there at the moment.

Most of this weeks profit has been paid in wages and we have been busy......

Be very carefull what you say to your boss and make sure you have alternative employment first.

I am in the same boat, Im 29 got 3 kids and paid ÂŁ8.80, it is a scandal. But like everyone says, times are hard at the moment dont do anything rash, At least you are employed and probably at that wage your job is VERY secure. Just do loads of private work get all the materials and cable on your bosses account and use the van at weekends, works for me:D(hope my boss doesnt read this site lol)
