AM2 advice

Good evening chaps

as the title says any one got any advice for the am2 I have got mine coming up in the summer probably June and to say I am bricking it is a understatement  I feel confident in the power circuit, SWA and the SY just a little unsure on the lighting as during my apprenticeship all lighting I have done has been done in singles and not T+E and also the bonding as I have never done any and also any tips for the inspection and test and also the fault finding would be great.

regards

adam

ps congratulations if you made it to the end and didn't fall asleep.

I have'nt done the AM2 myself so cant help on what to expect but I can help you on the lighting question.

You say that you have only used singles, ok t&e is just two single with a cpc encased in an outer sheath opposed to two line conductors (live and neutral) encased in a Earthed metal containment system. The outer grey sheath of the pvc/pvc t&e is classed as mechanical protection (only when used in the correct areas, domestic etc) opposed to the pvc or galv conduit.

As for the domestic lighting circuits there is only two ways of doing it. Loop in at the ceiling rose or Loop in at the switch. The most common practice is to loop in at the rose (aka 3 plate) where we take a t&e with a perm Live and Neutral to the first fitting and loop out to the second fitting then to the third fitting so on and so on. You now need a switch wire to operate the lamp. Using t&e, take a perm feed from the rose to the switch using the brown conductor. With the returning blue conductor in the L1 term (one way lighting system to keep this simple) going back to the rose in the live lamp term. You must at this stage put a bit of brown sleeving over the blue conductor at both ends to indicate it is now a Live conductor (switch Live) and no longer used for the neutral.

As for the Loop in at the switch:- t&e from the c/u for perm live and neutral to the switch. Incoming live to the Com term in the switch, neutral linked to the out going neutral use a choc block or wago (I use Wago's myself). On the out going t&e term the brown to the L1 in the switch and term both into the lamp terms at the rose. Think about the circuit, you've supplied a perm N to the fitting and you've supplied a switchable Live.

Hope I've explained this topic well enough? If not, have a look at some of the lighting diagrams in this sections sticky's and post up any questions.

Cheers for the reply mate the way they want you to do the lighting circuit is to loop in at the switch so you only have one cable at the fitting. Btw it is a two way and intermidatte circuit The way I would do it is t+e from db to 1st two way wago the neutral then three core an earth from 1st two way to the intermediate using one core as neutral sleeved and put in a wago and the other two as me strappers repeat same step from intermediate to 2nd two way and a t+e up to fitting. Does that sound right to you mate ?

Mad aint it? You hear all these sparkys say house bashing is a doddle yet I find singles in conduit 10x easier than trying to do any lighting with T&E!

Looks good to me apart from there will be two cables at each switch and one at the lamp holder lol.

Cheers mate from what I've read on the am2 that's what they want a switched live neutral and a earth at the fitting I think lol

Dont just concentrate on one lighting system, get to know both incase they ask. You need to know it anyway.
