well as above got my date from my apprenticeship department at college to take my am2 exam mid december, so any hints and tips from people who have already taken this exam would be muchly appreciated, all being well could end up with an early xmas present if i pass :yesnod:.

Revise your safe isolation, lock it off, safe isolation procedure and keep the key in your pocket for the entire install and do not give them the key.

On the install;

Read the spec thoroughly, stuff like the ring is wired in 2.5 brown and blue, 1.5 green/yellow. one socket will have to be wired as a spur, normally the ip rated one

Lighting wiring is specified, it'll draw a line to the switch first if its 2 plate, line to light first if 3 plate. 2 x two way and intermediate.

remember to set the overload on DOL

clip fp200 suppling c02 detector with p clips not cable ties

do not cable tie armoured, cleat it to tray with nuts and bolts

do not cut protective bonding conductor at the clamp, strip insulation back and connect it to clamp and the crimp a lug onto the other clamp (water and gas) or run two seperate cables.

data is easy, punch down tool, use wiring diagram B on back of outlet

double over conductors if terminal is big enough

use push-in connectors in the switch not normal connector blocks

use banjo on SWA and SY cable and bond it.

s plan is easy, just wire from adaptable box to each point. (spider wired)

Sleeve your conductors (blue sleeve brown in switches etc, sleeve SY conductors etc) anything that needs identifying do it.

Testing:
Safe isolation procedure again just to show you can do it.

disconnect earthing conductor and protective bonding conductors to eliminate parrallel paths and measure R2, under 0.05 ohms complies and tick box on test form. reconnect conductors

carry out your test procedures as usual, make sure you do and r1 +r2 and every point. on the ring remember to cross connect and test at each outlet, r1+rn and r1+r2. dont put a link from MET to breaker, remove line and earth and put in connector block(reduces parallel paths) do and R2 from heating spur to each point on the s plan circuit, operate all switches and retest at light to confirm polarity

disconnect all sensitive equipment for insulation resistance and put in connector blocks, turn s plan spur off, disconnect neutral from board if its not a 4 pole isolator. disconnect ring from rcbo and disconnect rcbo. make sure all breakers are on and test entire board at once, then redo test on ring that is disconnected, and retest lighting circuit after operating switches to check strappers. at heating spur connect line and neutral together and test between them and earth. reconnect neutral.

check supply polarity with voltage indicators

disconnect your earthing conductor when doing Ze

reconnect earth for PFC, record highest, remember to double PSSC as its 3 phase.

phase sequence at mains

replace board cover, engergise and check phase sequence at 16a socket and motor.

Zs, i'd do a test at the sockets and calculate the rest, your allowed to, its quicker in the exam.

rcd test, remember to do on 0 and 180.

check everything works as it should. DOL drops out when breaker is turned off and doesnt come back on when breaker is turned on. stuff like that.

check your max zs comply with the regs (use onsite guide as they are corrected)

fault finding is straight forward just keep your cool, reverse polarity, short circuits, high impedance bonding.

dont go by my test procedure, read GN3 thoroughly, i've just stated the stuff that may not be obvious.

Also the online examination consists of these sections, literally all the answers can be found in the books provided except motors and hand tools.

You'll get questions like,

what is the stationairy part of an induction motor - stator

If a cold steel chisel head starts to mushroom, what is the recommended procedure to follow?

here are the sections below;

Health & Safety
Hand tool & test equipment use & care
BS7671 Part 1
BS7671 Part 2
BS7671 Part 3
BS7671 Part 4
BS7671 Part 5
BS7671 Part 6
BS7671 Part 7
BS7671 Part A
Motor control and overload protection
Installation techniques
Building Regulations
Environmental Systems

feel free to press the thank button haha and good luck mate
