Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you could give me a bit of advice on fault finding.

I've passed all of my AM2 now and except for D1 which is fault diagnosis. I'm not too great on fault finding, I'm not bad which the sector that I work in, but when it comes to things in the AM2 bay I seem to end up at a complete loss!

I did have a list of common faults that are switched in on the bays, but I think my house has eaten it!

Basically, some of them, off the top of my head are:

Bulkhead will not illuminate from any of the 3 switches.
One Side of the two way switching does not operate.
Motor will not operate at all.
The Ring Main operates as normal, but there is a report of a fault with the circuit.
The motor circuit does not operate from the remote.

Any advice and help is very much appreciated!

i did this last year, was a joke to be honest cos i spent 30 mins looking for faults tht didnt exist, the clown hadnt turned the faults on, when i asked him he said they was there so i argued ---- and he then said oh ive given u wrong card, what a joke.

ill try rack my brains for faults i came across

Well the exam is on Friday morning and I have been trying to get as much info in my head about fault finding as possible, but isn't really working!

I think I'm just going to have to go in and take a extremely logical approach to it. Make sure I disconnect every circuit before trying to find the fault on it so I don't get any parallel readings from anything, and try not to get worked up about not being able to find a fault!

Grrrr.. I freaking hate fault finding!

I would add though that a typical good TT rod of 100 ohms only needs 3V to have 30mA flowing and so trip an RCD, you might find that sort of N-E...
