Hi there, I started my AM2 today, which consists of 4 sections.

I have done the fault finding and the online exam today, and started doing the install today.

Just a quickie, I have to choose the correct MCB's for the circuit, but today saw I have a RCBO and got a bit confused? Is there a certain circuit that has to go on?

Off the top of my head I have

Ring main 32A
External 16A socket 3 Phase
Lighting
DOL Starter 3 phase
Fire Alarm

There might be one or two more but cant think sorry!

Any guideance would be great.

Hi

I would stick it on the lighting circuit due to 'nuisance tripping,' caused by bulbs blowing etc.

However i've recently done my Level 3 practical exam and we were told to do them same, but it turnt out they just give you anything in your goddy box on the day, I had some type C MCB's and an 2 RCBOs, I made sure I made them aware of it when they inspected my board and my teacher said dont worry about it cause after 300 students doing the exams people get given all sorts of protective devices as they go missing, we replace with whatever we have in the store, was quite funny really. Think I had a 40A 3phase break on my motor circuit, when on my paperwork it said 16A he he.

Hope that is of help !

Circuits and mcb's.
BD is a 4 way three-phase board: 1 = spare. 2 = type B 6 amp CO2 detector. 3 = type B 6 amp Lighting.
4,5 & 6 = type C 20 amp 3 phase 4 wire 20 amp isolator feeding a 5 pin socket. 7 = spare. 8 = B 16 amp heating. 9 = type C 32 amp RCBO ring cct. 10, 11 & 12 = type C 10 amp DOL.
Hope this helps.

Cheers guys, Yup I used it on the ring main. Passed the installation and fault finding, just need to re take testing and the online exam. Pleased with myself though as I mainly work on fire, security and access gear. Very rare that I do any other electrical work.
