Hi everyone.

I am currently doing my am2. Did they safe isolation today.
Not sure if I messed it up. For some reason I took the protective neutral cover off from the board then performed the 10 step isolation. I asked permission to isolate, labelled with warning signs and put key in pocket. The board had no circuits or even breakers in it. So even if it was live there would of been nothing in the neutral bar anyway. Like I say did everything else ok, just took the plastic protective cover off the neutral bar before 10 point isolation. Am I overthinking? Cheers

They could get funny if you could get your probe in the outgoing side of the main switch without removing the cover. If it wasn't mentioned, I'm sure it wasn't picked up on or they thought it was fine though

But, there would be nothing on the outgoing. There is a isolator that feeds the board. I turned the isolator off and locked off. The board had no breakers or circuits. So, nothing would ever of been coming through the neutral. Don’t know why I did it. The examiner didn’t say anything, but, then he probably wouldn’t. Just finished first day.

Safe isolation is to test that there is nothing on the outgoing side of the main switch, but agree there would be no danger without any breakers/circuits in. How well did you get on with your tutor ;)

Actually, didn't consider reversed polarity before the cu, should of left it on

Just nerves more than anything. I was the first person to do it, first thing in the morning. Literally as soon as I did it thought woops. Everything else went good with the install. Just doing my nut in thinking about it. Would be a daft thing to have a retake on. I suppose you can only speculate down to the instructor. He was a sound guy, to be fair.

Silver lining is, if I did fail safe isolation. Then I would only have to retake that particular section. Wouldn’t have to do the lot. So, not a massive deal. Just a bit daft! Oh well, life goes on.

I wouldn't worry about it too much as you will be tested on safe isolation a couple more times yet.

I'm sure the very first safe isolation you perform has to be 100% correct other wise you cannot continue with the assessment. However don't quote me, but I think you may be over thinking it and you'll be fine.
