Hi there,

Excuse the ignorance, but I just have a quick query relating to ampage on an old property.

At present, the property has a gas cooker but I would very much like to use an electric oven.

The fuse box currently says 100 amps on it, and I believe an electric oven is 30 amps. Will this be feasible on 100 amps. Do I need to supply readers with more information?

Most cookers are in that range for power requirements. You can do a load test using a clamp meter with the items switched on that would normaly be on together. Rememeber you'll not normal have every electrical item switched on at once. Plus your allowed to use Diversity (Appendix 1) OSG.
If your looking at the average domectic property under high demand condition u'll be drawing 85amps in winter approx, IE: cooking, taking a shower, heating, washing machine, plus sockets and light that would normaly be on.. Remember the cooker needs to be on its own cct.

What size is the fuse that supplys the cooker? If it is 32A upwards then it will be fine. The breaker is there to protect the cable, not the applicance. The 100Amps that you refer to is likely the main switch, assuming a domestic property. if you at all unsure, leave it alone.
