I have just read this on Yahoo, it's a reponse from "Graham" to the Devastating and immediate cuts to solar power debate.

Most PV systems, so far as exporting surplas energy onto the grid, work on the pricipal that the higher voltage will prevail. These systems are usually set at 232 volts. This means that if a PV system is generating more that this voltage then it will be 'sold' back to the national grid at whatever rate has been agreed. All very good in pricipal but, energy providers are required to supply electricity at 230 volts +/- 10% which means that the supply to your home could legitimately be as little as 207volts or as much as 253volts. I am an electrician with 20 years experiance in domestic electrical installation and I have never taken a reading using calibrated equipment of less that 235volts. It is therefor highley unlikely anybody will ever be able to make any kind of income by exporting energy from a PV system. Like so many of these government incentives, they all sound wonderfull but the reality is you will only end up poorer for it.
My advice is do not touch them with a barge pole. If these systems are so good why is it not compulsory for it to be installed on all new build housing? Think about it.

LMAO What on earth is he talking about?
I wonder if "Graham" is a member here?

Don't think it has anything to do with voltage, but everything to do with KVA output!! As i understand it, after whatever power the PV system is connected too has been satisfied, the remainder can be sent by the DNO network.

DNO meters don't measure and charge for voltage, but KWh used, unless your on penalty rate, then you'll be paying for all the wattless current... lol!!

Go and read about generation and AVR’s. Then try to tie them together. Once you’ve given up on that start looking at generator OP control.

PS just got back from a look around a 17MW generator, I could fit two of them in my lounge! It sits quite happily churning out power derived from crap 24/7/365 and doesn’t look a bloody eyesore!

electricity production from MPs spouting off. this i gotta see.

Perhaps if we bagged up all the fart gasses that effervesce from out of these MPs mouths then..when we had collected enough (not very long to wait then)....we could use it for a gas fired leccy station......
