had to change a programmer today about 10 min from home turned off spur and it tripped RCBO, replaced prog on same base went to turn on power. Garage with electric door with no power to it, no other door or window. Notice a keyhole that needed a 300 mm allen key tool to manually open door, customer tells me its in garage. Slowly walk outside and cry

customer did not have any info on door so could not phone anyone as first door guy I know said keys are different depending on door. We cut the end off a silicone gun and filed the end of hexagon shaft down until it fitted over next two hours then got paid my ÂŁ40 (prog supplied by others)

my assistant made a classic today, im in sw London and he calls me and says he is fitting a pull cord and the light is not working, pleased as punch he says he has had the meter out and he hasn't got 240 at the light, transpired he had the live and switchline in l1 and l2 there was that moment on the phone line when it went silent as I took him through the testing procedure when I heard the nob of the goes to........ he will remember next time

I went to a job one evening vacant rental house customer had left keys for me as he lives 1 hour away, went in left keys on inside of door , later went to van , door shut me out , spent half hour fishing through letter box with threaded rod and wire coat hanger and the neighbour guiding me.

did it though

Years back I got involved in a rewire for a friend of the mother in laws.
Anyway, customer was off to work for the day and her last words were don't let the dog out!
As you may well guess I let the little ba****d get out. Spent an hour either driving or walking the area, all to no avail. Had to phone misses (this was before mobiles became popular) she had to go through the phone book and try various places before she found out the dog warden had picked him up.
Cost me a bit to get him released on parole so to speak.
When I told customer later, she wasn't the least put out and offered to pay the money back.
Honest bloody doughnut that I am, I said no!

better than a house in mill hill I was working at where Anglian installed the right windows in the wrong house, wheelie bins all at the end of the cul de sac, van pulls up and sees the bins and the scaffolding, knocks on the door a not from around here labourer answers and the guy tells him he is here to replace the windows so the guy lets him in and they crack on, we only worked it out because we were at the van for 11'ies and the woman from 2 doors down came over and asks are you the window men, only i'm also meant to be having my windows done but the men have not turned up yet. they did a lovely job though

Ive done that before, ended up using the super rods with the 2kg magnet on the end, I ended up with a handful of lose change paper clips and a shiny set of keys mixed in with all the crap :). Also I wanted to test a bit of kit so thought ill just pop a plug top on the end of the flex, wired it up then realised I just put a plug on the end of a scape piece of the same flex, doh last thing on a Friday lol

Ha ha this reminds me of the time I was at a customers house with my mate. Lady of the house pops out to get some milk for tea. I'm aware that there is a dog kept behind a door downstairs utility room, there is another dog somewhere in the house, nothing too strange about that, i know nothing about dogs, i thought she had done it for our sake

I go upstairs to check shower, dog comes charging out from behind door, straight downstairs to other dog which my mate had released.

What followed was what I can only describe as nature taking her course. Both dogs were very happy to see each other. My mate helpfully informed me one of them was on heat.

What followed was one of the Most hilarious and surreal example of animal husbandry you can imagine, as we tried to separate the two lovebirds. Owner came home, and we had no choice but to admit to what had happened. Owner was really good about it and said visit to vets was next week, hence the seperation i like to think that we gave that boy his last hurrah. Never did find out if he ever was a proud father though.

My brother in law is a Gardner he was putting up a fence for a customer and they had a dog he was told not to let the dog out as he liked next doors garden but couldn't resist happily erected the new fence and was proud as punch customer came home and loved the fence asked where the dog was you can guess where ****ed myself when he told me they had to wait for next door to come home and ask for the dog back only problem was he had destroyed the veg patch haha

The knob for me today, has to go to a security installer, who decided to nick the 24v supply off our fire exit door releases, for his 10 new 12v access door controllers and mags. No survey conducted to see what voltage or amperage the existing supplies were....hence to say all power supplies blew and all fire exits doors were left open. He sates after 20 years in the business, it has to be down to the crappy install we fitted 3 years ago, which has been trouble free till now.....HMMM
