Having worked with both US and Canadian Electricians for about 6 months, I'm sorry to say I didn't see any of them do any testing, just bang it on the wall and rely on the bang test, not to say they are that rough I hope.

Pete have you been to the science museum and seen that thing they went to the moon in? Bits of plywood and crap slung together with a Sinclair spectrum auto pilot and a wiring loom out of an old Pontiac. Throwing a "waterproof" T&E in a 12 inch slot in the ground is a massive leap forward.
