My work colleague has done a private job that was notifiable, nothing major, just a small extension. He has wired an ensuite bathroom, and a few downlights in a bedroom. (He has only touched the lighting circuit, and has moved it over at the board so that it is R.C.D protected). My boss has said that he would sign it off for him, but when he gave him the paper work he said he was not happy about signing it off as the I.R was too low. the existing installation was 8M, (sorry, I dont know what conductors this was between). he had tested before work commenced, so he knew it was relatively low, coincidentaly he also tested just his installation and got >500. It is my understanding that 1M is minimum, but less than 2M should be investigated, my boss reckons it needs to be >12 (i might be wrong, but in my admittedly very short career I have never heard such rubbish). The only thing that makes me question it is my boss is nearly always right and its going to be his name on the paperwork so I want to make sure that I am right before I shoot my mouth off and make an idiot of myself. Also are these minimum figures the same for a new build??? thanks in advance.
