Just joined the forum, been looking as a guest for a little while.

The story is a career change at 52 years old. Have been a Software Developer/manager for a large telecomms company for the past 10 years, during which time i had started to do some electrical re-training.

Started with Part P defined scope then upgraded to full scope.

Have been doing limited work small jobs etc, whilst I build up experience.

Took my C&G 2382 17th edition wiring regs last year and 2377 PAT testing in April.

The best of all is that i have recently been notified that I have passed my 2391-10 Inspection and Testing. First attempt was in October 2009, I passed the practical but failed the theory, re-sit for the theory was in March and I've passed !!!

A great confidence booster for someone in my position.

Looking to share my experiences on this site. :D

Welcome to Electricians Forum | Electrical Advice Forum | An electrical forum for electricians in the UK!

Welcome to electriciansforums.net mrwaverley. Thanks for introducing yourself.

Me. I am a Just Starter on this forum. I need advise from one or 10 of the bright 'sparks' out there. I have been doing electrical installations & maintenance for 25 years (and other things) with my own company. In South Africa. Now I need to qualify those skills and abilities in this country. I have the experience but not the paper qualifications. Any advise will be appreciated.

Hi and welcome pleased you joined us. Any questions are best posted on the main forum not everyone looks here. For a start you will need City and Guilds 2382 17th edition and City and Guilds 2391 inspection and testing. Most companies want these qualifications

Good luck

I am suppose to sign up for a 5 week course at the end of which from nothing, I become a 'qualified' electrician. I cant believe that any prospective employer or client will believe that in 5 weeks one can 'learn' 5+ years of apprentice on the job experience. I dont know if I am perhaps wasting my money!!!! According to a newspaper artical today.. . . I am.
And pray tell, Where is the MAIN FORUM?? Ill look around for it..

Many thanks
