Just wanted to run this past you all, i've got my first part p assesment on the 19th and wanted your opinion on if my job was ok,

i intend to replace a c/u
split the lighting circuit into two cirrcuits for discrimination
smoke+ heat alarm
and outside light circuit.

heres the set up, sockets in pvc copper, lights in 1mm singles earth on the live and single neutral , earth present at all fittings. i believe whilst not ideal this wiring is fine?

i changed a switch in the kitchen and saw the 2 way had been done in 1mm 4 core flex. would this be ok or would it need to be changed, i personally see no problem but wanted your thoughts.

thnks alot

Just noticed that the earth has been exported to the garage (overhead on a catenary), i wondered if it would be acceptable to the assessor to leave it disconn and explain to him what i plan to do with it.

struggling for time!

anyway the plan is to gland the armoured off inside a plastic adapt box then create a tt for the garage, is this the way it's done? this would make sure the two different earths would not be touchable at the same time. the other alternative would be to TT the whole system but it seems a shame when there is a PME in.

thanks again

just one on the smokes mate I was told if you put them in you will need to check them with a d-bell meter in the bedrooms to ensure than can be heard throughout, I could be wrong as this is not my area but worth checking out before your assessment so it does not cause you any grief if you dont have the results or certs.
good luck with it mate.

As far as I know, you don't need to test smoke alarm circuits with a d.bell meter, that only comes in on fire alarm systems. Provided you stick to the minimum requirements for the smokes you'll have no problems. The Aico smokes I use have a useful diagram that comes with them showing the measurements of where the smokes need to be positioned within a house.

Good luck witht the assesment.

i don't thinkl that'll be a problem it's a very small bungalow. if i remember right its no more than 7.5m away from a habitable rooms, its less than a metre so he'd have to be a bit keen to test me on that i'd of thought.

nice one. good luck with it mate you will do ok a mate of mine got himself in a right state before his ?? you would have thought he was on trial for war crimes. he said the assessor was ****ing himself at him when he came round, mind you i would not fancy doing the live tests with shakey hands though :D
