Hi all,

Sorry for another noob question, hopefully not annoying too many people with my first post !

I buy and sell/rent property usualy repo's, I do all the work myelf except for the gas, and of course I have a spark in to sign off the electrics which is becoming more and more difficult ( which I understand, but you can see where this is heading ).
I have read a lot of posts, looked at a heap of 'fast track' centers and all it's done is confuse me so far. I dont have any electrical qualification, but for the first part I would like to be able to legaly install & sign off my properties then maybe in the furture take it further but for now that's enough.
I just can't work out as well as part P what other C&G I would need, i had thought maybe 2391 but I have just read somewhere that's being replaced with 2394 & 2395.

Cheers & TIAS

Another option is to look at the requirements of the scheme providers.
For example Elecsa have a a faq here that mentions qualifications required. You might be suprised by how little is required ;)

However if you already browsed round here you will also know the arguements on whether the bare minimum is enough

Cheers for all the advice so far

For what I do this would probably be ok for now, I just replace the rings and adjust the socket placement depending on room config and add a bathroom extractor where needed. Most of the places I have worked on have odd ali wires here and there so it's easier to just start again and they are basic properties so no over complicated applications

It might depend on how many jobs you do a year but rugbynick might have a point about hiring a spark. Especially if you do all the ground work (eg ripping the old stuff out, chasing walls, fitting boxes etc) to reduce costs.
I reckon that even going with the basics (eg a part P course and a 17th edition course) you are probably talking about ÂŁ1500 to ÂŁ2000 to do the training, get the required tools (assuming you don't already have a multi function tester) and register. Plus ÂŁ500 a year min each year.

I've bought my tester off a bathroom guy who finds it cheaper (and less hassle) to hire a spark than keep his part p registration and do it himself.
