Hello

I'm 34 years old and have been struggling to get into the electrical trade since about 2009 when I first started looking into it.

Had no luck whatsoever, so here I am on here yet again trying to pick your brains for more of your advice. :smile5:

What I'm after is becoming an electrician and then working my way up further if its possible.

So these are the only qualifications I have which I believe may be of some use to the trade.

City and Guilds 2330 Level 2

and: -

IPAF 3a and 3b
PASMA
Asbestos Awareness
Working at Heights
CSCS Card
Full First Aid at Work

I'm just unsure where to go next and how to go about it.

I have been to see careers advice, and in all honesty the people I have spoken to just don't seem to have a clue.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

Ok thanks for your reply.

I was led to believe that they have phased out the City and Guilds 2330 or changed it to something else?

Also was told that as the NVQ was compulsory to work within the trade, then I'd be better of doing that rather than the C&G 2330 Level 3, as both were not needed?

Is their any truth in that do you reckon?

You need to do your level3 along side the Nvq with the new online nvq you can't complete it without level 3 tech cert hope this helps

OK thanks.

Is that the City and Guilds 2365 Electrotechnical Technologies Certificate Level 3?

Just that on my local college website I can no longer find the C&g 2330

Pretty sure that has superseded the 2330 I had the same problem only good thing is the level 3 counts for 73% of your diary once all exams are passed getting the other 27% takes for ever though

New level 3 is 2365 course which is aimed at people not working in the trade. Please bear in mind the level 3 is classed as a 2 year course one day a week or 1 year over 2 days a week as it is around 450 GLH. There is a lot in renewable energy as part of the course now and a lot more assignments than the old 2330 course. Once you have done this you can do a 2356 NVQ followed by the AM2.
I am just about to finish the 2365 level 3 which was started last September.

Does any of the 2365 course count towards the nvq?
Also is the nvq still needed after the 2365 is completed? The reason I ask is that I've heard it's a nightmare to get anyone to take you on to complete the nvq?
