stranded

Evening all,

I have applied to start an apprenticeship as a spark in September and was wondering about a few things.

I have had a bit of experience working with a fire engineer (mainly alarms, emergency lighting etc) and really enjoyed that sort of work, and have always sort have had an interest in alarms and the likes.

Just wondering if there are any fire engineers out there, and how did you get into the industry, or are you a trained spark who has moved onto that sort of work, or both?

I'm looking so that i have at least another option to work with, just in case for some reason the apprenticeship didn't work, although i might also consider the fire engineer route instead.

I have looked at FIA courses and the likes, and cant find apprenticeships other than Gent and they seem to not be running the course in NI this year/or again. Are there other routes that im missing?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hi I started out doing an electrical apprenticeship and then decided I wanted to try some other things having a electrical background definitely helped me get the job I'm doing now would start with a electrical apprenticeship first if I was you

I did the City and Guilds 185 security and emergency alarm systems parts 1, 2 and 3, along with other City and guilds and higher education in electrical/electronic and mechanical over a period of about 10 years. I wanted to know more about fire, intruder, and cctv, and not just how to wire it.

I don't think they do the 185 now, I think its been replaced with something else but I don't know what.

Evening guys I know there is not much out the in ralation to fire training, by companies. But you can try the FIA 3 module training, or BAFE in the same 3 part caurse, and finally the BSI caurse. I know these are expensive caurses and will only give you the design, install and commisssioning training. If you have some knowedge of the interdustry, try going on manufactures caurses, you can gain some input on programming and commissioning. A lot of companies look out for good commissioning engineers...Good manufactures who run caurses are Gent, Morley/Notifier, Advanced and Kentec to name some.
Hope this helps and good luck
