I am looking for a camera that is ip rated and can also record sound, any one any ideas? Been in a couple security wholesales and neither could come up with any thing other than a separate microphone, any one know of a website/wholesaler?

thanks In advance

Sorry I was unclear, there would only be very specific circumstances where a camera would be legally permitted to record audio.
the code of practice says that if a camera can capture audio it should be turned off

If you have such a specific circumstance where you can legally record sound then talk to the suppliers and they may be able to help.

your probably going to need an adaptable box to connect the tails from the camera to the supply cable from the DVR. so just stick a small microphone inside the box. thats how we do it, a lot of professional cameras don't offer a built in mic as you have already found out.

If recording on Private Property that is one thing, however if this is a commercial property it is ILLEGAL to record the conversations of employees except is recognised ways, such as telephone calls or meetings where all parties agree to the conversation being recorded, normally when filmed simultaneously. To record employees without their express written permission is a CRIMINAL offence and it is also a breach of the Human Rights act.

If the recording will captures sounds on the public highway then the same comments above apply, recording any conversation without permission is illegal, you will open yourself up to legal action. Whilst, same as with commercial, a criminal prosecution, whilst possible, is unlikely, you may be done under the Human Rights Act and Courts in this country have a hard on at the moment for illegal recordings...they award heavy damages to victims.

I would seek clarification from the customer to ensure they understand the law and the legal minefield they will be entering, you need to clarify with them the purpose of the recording of sound.
